Abstract
Delays at the point of arrival account for a substantial share of preventable maternal morbidity in tertiary units operating above capacity. We describe the design, phased rollout and two-year outcomes of a midwife-led triage protocol at a 900-bed teaching hospital. Median time from arrival to first clinical assessment fell from 74 to 19 minutes. Escalation accuracy, audited against consultant review, was 91%.
